Sakkara Day Trip

Our tour starts with Egypt’s first pyramid, the step pyramid built by Zoser during the 3rd Dynasty (2900BC), and the first coloured pyramid, the pyramid of Unas, dating back to the 5th Dynasty (2300BC). We then move on to the tomb of Idhut, a 6th Dynasty female judge who was the first in history to determine taxation, followed by the tomb of Meriruka with its rare hunting scenes that date back to 2343BC. After this comes one of the highlights of the tour, the Serapium, an underground tunnel where sacred bulls were buried. The Serapium has more than 45 coffins made of pure granite. Our next stop, the tomb of Mehu, a 6th Dynasty Vizir, is known for having the most vivid and well-preserved colors in the area. We end the tour with the museum of the architect Imhotep who can also be credited with the introduction of medicine in Egypt. A delicious local lunch of barbequed dishes, vegetable tajins, rice, falafel, stuffed cabbage leaves, fresh fruit and tea will be enjoyed in a lovely farm close by.
