Garbage City, locally known as Madinet el Zabbaleen, lies at the heart of Mansheyet Naser in the hills of El Moqatam. The area is famous for its incredibly efficient, grassroots recycling programs and for its primarily Coptic community, including the iconic Cave Church. We’ll visit factories that recycle everything from paper and plastic to glass and metal. Here they’ll show us how they use those recycled materials to create clothes, jewelry, door mats carpets, quilts and a whole range of amazing products. Highlights of the tour include the Monastery of St. Simon (the shoe maker) who has 4 major churches and insights into the miracle of moving the mountain. We’ll also venture into the heart of the food market for an especially memorable experience.

Meeting point CSA Maadi at 8:30am and estimated end time are return to Maadi 2pm.
