On Rebirth & Sustainability

By Kenzy Fahmy

Welcome to the very first edition of Oasis Blog, a re-launch of our beloved Oasis Magazine, but this time, we’re going digital! Join us every Thursday as we explore everything this beautiful country has to offer, from cultural highlights and guides, to collaborations with key industry players and pioneers, and of course, your guide to CSA events, philosophies and services.

Times are changing, perhaps more rapidly than ever. And as the world around us evolves, it’s vital that we evolve along with it, adapting to ever-changing needs and challenges in the environments and communities we live in. CSA has been a pillar of the Maadi community since the 80s, our mission being one of service and support from the very beginning. What began as a place where expats could go to learn the lay of the land, from language to customs, eventually grew into a hub for everything from food and wellness to culture and art, a place where locals and expats can connect and build a better community together.

Oasis Magazine was an extension of this, and as part of our ‘quest for revival’, we’ve decided that the magazine would need to evolve as well. By going digital, we can stay true to our values and give new life to Oasis.

To mark this rebirth, we’re celebrating one of our core pillars: Sustainability.

The mission to become more sustainable is not just ours, but is now a central concern of people the world over. It’s no longer an option to ignore the signs of damage we’ve inflicted on our world, and in a new wave of awareness, the issue of sustainability is at the forefront of many of our dialogues, at the heart of many of our decisions. And as important as it is that each one of us do their part, the effects of our efforts will only really be felt when we act together as a community.

We invite you to take part in CSA’s upcoming Sustainability Weekend, an event that is near and dear to our hearts and one we are particularly proud of. Taking place March 18th-19th, the two-day showcase will bring together several bright minds in the fields of ecotourism, recycling and waste management, sustainable energy and more, tapping into a wealth of knowledge and experience we’re absolutely blessed to have access to. From sustainable design and architecture with Mohamed El Agizy to reviving traditional Siwan crafts with Laila Neamatallah, our key note speakers will share their valuable insights as we move forward together with the aim of reducing our Carbon footprint and living more conscientious lives.

The event is in essence a call to action; our mission is to inspire and support our community to take concrete steps towards sustainability, connecting them to people and organizations that can help realize our goals. Through our partnerships, we hope to encourage people to use apps like DAWAR that work to clean up Maadi, switch to more eco-friendly energy solutions, eat more plant-based foods that not only support a healthy lifestyle, but also promote a healthier environment, and do whatever we can to leave the world better than we found it.

Tune in next week for an in depth look at our partners and key speakers, and find out what you can look forward to during our upcoming Sustainability Weekend!
