6 Egyptian Sustainable Fashion Brands

Ezz Al-Turkey

In today's world, the fashion industry plays a significant role in driving environmental and social change. As consumers become increasingly aware of the impact of their purchases, the demand for sustainable fashion is on the rise. In Egypt, a country known for its rich history and vibrant culture, there is a growing movement towards supporting ethical and eco-friendly fashion brands. With more local fashion brands than ever, there is a huge wave of sustainable options that are not only producing fabulous pieces, but also saving the planet!

1. Rehab Shalaby Boutique

A young Egyptian woman named Rehab Shalaby launched her own sustainable fashion company selling handcrafted shirts and bags that she crocheted herself.

2. Zennelle
You guessed it: fast fashion is the opposite of slow fashion, which is perhaps the least sustainable type of clothing for several reasons. Regardless of the quantity required, products are produced in large amounts. They are typically constructed of inexpensive textiles and are produced in sweatshops, which is against the law and cruel. As a result, they wear out rapidly and are thrown away, adding to waste and landfills. Therefore, Zennelle has undertaken the admirable endeavor of embracing slow fashion, which is a method of creating apparel that accounts for every stage of the supply chain, from designing the pieces to manufacturing and shipping them. Slow fashion strives to respect people, animals, and the environment in this way. Because the procedure is so deliberate, more time is dedicated to the design, guaranteeing the quality of each item.

3. Upfuse
So you have probably heard of Upfuse already, correct? If you haven’t, get this: they turn plastic waste into anything. You name it: shirts, jeans, bags, etc. As for "upcycling," we are aware that the consensus is that anything that has been thrifted or recycled is most likely somewhat unsightly. Upfuse utterly defies logic in this instance.

4. Jozee
Jozee is a website that intends to serve as a platform for companies and designers who share the same love and passion. It was developed to promote the love, passion, and stories behind diverse and handcrafted items. They emphasize Egyptian culture in their clothing creations, supporting the women who either produce them or find their supplies. In addition, they belong to the World Fair Trade Organization.
