Receive advice on exciting experiences Cairo has to offer, helpful tips and visits to authentically local shopping areas. We also provide private tours to take the stress out of planning trips for friends or family who are visiting, or to arrange a special trip for a few friends.
Fayoum Day Trip
Our Fayoum day trip will take you around the highlights of the city and its surroundings, from off-road exploration and the Valley of the Whales to ancient monuments and Tunis Village.
Horseback Riding in Sakkara
How about embarking on an exciting trip to the countryside? Sakkara is a wonderful place to spend the day on horseback. Enjoy a stroll around the area or if you are feeling adventurous, take your horseback ride into the desert.
Egyptian Antiquities Museum
The Museum is located next to the Nile Hilton Hotel, facing Midan Tahrir, and contains the finest collection of Pharaonic antiquities in the world. Don’t miss the fabulous 'King Tut’ exhibit on the second floor. The mummy exhibition carries an extra charge.
Manial Palace/Mohamed Ali Museum
This palace is located on Manial El Rhoda just south of the Royal Nile Tower Hotel. The entrance is on Sayala Street leading to Cairo University Bridge. The home of the former crown prince is a Turkish style home with vast collections of personal relicts of the former royal family including weaponry, insect collection, china, portraits and trophies. The gardens feature a large variety of tropical plants. Open daily 9.00am to 2.00pm.
Children’s Museum Heliopolis
A child starts his tour of the museum after he receives his "passport". He sees, listens and gets acquainted with all the different aspects of life, starting with the ancient forefathers and progressing up to modern times. Science, technology, imagination, truth in the past, present and future; all interact to create a wonderful world for the Egyptian child, namely, the Child Museum. It is an edifice that appeals to a child's intelligence and inquisitive nature, allowing interaction with what he sees in full freedom. Children at this museum are able to deal with high technology and modern methods to enrich their knowledge and imagination. In the Forest Garden, and focuses on children to learn through “hands-on” experience about Egyptian culture, history and geography. Informational pamphlets in English are available, and tours are offered, lasting about 1½ hours. Open daily 9.00am to 2.00pm, except Mondays 2639-9915
Museum of Islamic Art
The Museum on Port Said Street (Down Town) is beautifully renovated with samples of metalwork, woodcarving, textiles, tiles etc from the Islamic world.
Open Sunday to Thursday from 9.00am to 4.00pm, and Fridays from 9.00am to 11.00am and 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
National Museum of Modern Egyptian Art
The National Museum, located in the Gezirah Exhibition Grounds in Zamalek, has a wonderful collection of modern Egyptian paintings and sculptures. Open Saturday to Thursday 10.00am to 1.00pm and 5.00pm to 9.00pm, on Fridays 10.00am to midday prayers, and 5.00pm to 9.00pm. Closed on Monday. 2736-6665.
Nilometer
Ancient Egyptian farmers were taxed according to the annual water level. This water level was measured on the Nilometer. If there had been lots of water, then the crops had been good and up went the taxes. No rain meant bad crops and low taxes. Simple, really. This little wonder can be found on Rhoda Island.
Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum
The private collection of Mahmoud Khalil features, amongst others, paintings by Van Gogh, Renoir and Monet, plus sculptures and Chinese porcelain. Open from 10.00am to 5.30pm, except Monday. Tel. 3336 2358/76
Railway Museum
The Museum, located at the Cairo Railway station, Midan Ramses, contains models and tools used in transportation, methods of moving columns, types of boats, early trains, and a collection of railway vehicles. Open daily from 8.30am to 1.00pm, except Monday and Public Holidays.
Pyramids at Giza and the Sphinx
The Giza Pyramids are the best-known Pharaonic remains in Egypt, and are located on the western outskirts of Cairo at the city of Giza, a necropolis of ancient Memphis and today part of Greater Cairo. It is about half an hour’s drive from city center. The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) was built by the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu of the Fourth Dynasty around the year 2560 BC to serve as a tomb when he died. The Sphinx, carved from the bedrock of the Giza plateau is the body of a lion, the head of a king or god, and remains a mysterious marvel from the days of ancient Egypt. Take a taxi or even the Bus # 8 from Tahrir Square and plan on spending the day as a ‘tourist’. The Pyramids are open daily until sunset. Upon arrival, you will probably be greeted by a welcoming committee, horseback-riding guides who know the perfect picture taking spots, camel drivers who want your business, and your own ‘personal tour guide’ who will take good care of you. If you want to do it on your own, just keep repeating La’a, Shukran (no, thank you) and explore: Solar Boat Museum: A must see! The reconstruction is incredible. Located near the Giza Pyramids, the museum contains the solar boat and other replicas. Open daily 9.00am to 4.00pm.
Coptic Cairo
Including Abu Serga where the Holy family sought refuge. Ben Ezra, one of the oldest synagogues in Cairo. The Hanging Church, built into the walls of the water gate of the Roman fortress and is possibly the oldest Christian church in Egypt. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it is one of Cairo's most beautiful churches. Approx. 3 hours.
Samaan El Kharaz Cave Church
Also known as Church of St Ibram Ibn Zaraa El Soriany , Moqattam, Cairo, Egypt. The church in Moqattam, Cairo is made up of 3 sets of caves. The largest one is said to be able to contain 10,000 people, the middle-sized one around 2,000 and the smallest around 200.
Citadel of Salah el Din, Sultan Hassan Mosque and the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar
The Alabaster Mosque at the Citadel of Salah el-Din sits atop a limestone hill overlooking Cairo and is the most important mosque in the city the Khan el Khalili bazaar for souvenirs of Egypt.
Abdeen Palace
This is one of the official residences of the President of Egypt. The palace, located in the Old Cairo district of Abdeen is today a museum.
The Agricultural Museum
The Museum is located beside the Ministry of Agriculture in Dokki, next to 6th of October Bridge. The main building has large collections of stuffed animals and mock-ups of various agricultural processes in Egyptian villages. You can rest at the delightful outdoor tea garden. Open daily 9.00am to 1.00pm, except Mondays.
Cairo Tower
The 187 m high tower was built between 1957 and 1962 in Zoharia Gardens on Gezirah Island. A lift takes you to the revolving restaurant and a viewing platform offering spectacular Cairo panoramas. On a clear day, you can see the Pyramids and the Delta. Open daily 9.00am to midnight. 2738-3790.
Centre for Art and Life
This facility is on the tip of Rhoda Island. The exhibit includes Pharaonic art, ceramics, textiles, batiks, paintings, photography, handicrafts, glass and pottery as well as Persian, Islamic and Coptic art objects. Student works are offered for sale. Open 8.00am to 3.00pm, except Friday and Saturday.
